A midcentury-modern home built by one of Tampa Bay's most prominent architects, Paul Rudolph, was on the market for $395,000, and sold for $500 more than its asking price.
Built in 1950 for clients Allen and Barbara Bennett, the 1,945-square-foot home is referred to as "The Bennett Residence," and is located at 3901 Riverview Blvd. in Bradenton.
With only 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the home makes up for its size with incredible style. Featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, an Ocala block fireplace, and heart red cypress wood, the home's design is rooted in its natural surroundings, and features a private garden courtyard and an artist studio.
In 2001, the home was sold to local architect and author Joseph King, who restored the property.
Im 1952, Rudolph started his own firm in Sarasota along with Ralph Twitchell, who also helped design the Bennett Residence. A product of the Harvard School of Design, Rudolph studied under Bauhaus founder Walter Gropius, and later went on to become the chair of Yale University's Department of Architecture, even designing the Yale Art and Architecture Building. Locally, Rudolph was considered one of the pioneers of the Sarasota School of Architecture, and was responsible for the original Riverview High School, the Sarasota High School, and the Healy Guest House in Siesta Key, among many others.
Rudolph passed away in 1997, at the age of 78, from peritoneal mesothelioma.
