19 powerful photos from Orlando’s #BlackLivesMatter protest

Less than a week after a Missouri grand jury decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson in the shooting death of Mike Brown, a New York grand jury made a similar decision in the death of Eric Garner. The news of Garner's death went viral after a bystander recorded NYPD officers attempting to arrest Garner and placing him in a choke-hold, which was ruled a contributing factor in his death. The two non-indictment rulings have fueled racial tensions and sparked protests nationwide. Citizens in many major cities across the nation have taken to the streets to voice their concerns. Last night, Orlando joined the chorus of protesters. A peaceful "Hands Up Don't Shoot/We Can't Breathe" protest march took place on the corner of East Colonial Drive and Magnolia Avenue from 5-7 p.m. The group carried signs, candles and chanted "Don't Shoot" as they marched in the name of those slain at the hands of police officers. – Alma Hill
