Orlando restaurants that have opened since March

Although none of these new Orlando-area restaurants planned to open during a pandemic, that's how the cookie crumbled. Now, some of these eateries are finally greeting their first dine-in customers, and bringing new tastes to Central Florida.

As Central Florida tries to return to some sense of normalcy, here's our list of eateries worth visiting – during this unprecedented time, and hopefully long into the future.

Bao’s Castle

Bao’s Castle opened in the middle of quarantine on April 1 and offered takeout, curbside pick-up and delivery until May 4 when the venue opened for dine-in at 25 percent capacity as well. Although Bao’s Castle mostly offers baos, the venue also features bowls and churros. Despite the circumstances, Bao’s Castle has been met with an influx of orders throughout the pandemic.

Sixty Vines in Winter Park opened March 17 and was forced to close three days later and offer curbside pickup, carryout and delivery. On May 4, the venue opened for dine-in at 25 percent capacity. Sixty Vines offers a wine-country setting that perfectly pairs wines with specific dishes.

San Julian’s Coffee

Their dining room reopened on May 4 offering sandwiches, antojos (cravings) and a variety of coffee drinks. The coffee shop even encourages customers to bring their dog while they sit and sip their coffee.

The Taiwanese restaurant tried opening in March, but four days later, the pandemic forced them to close for the safety of their customers and employers. The venue held its soft opening on May 4 and offers a variety Taiwanese street cuisine along with some traditional Chinese dishes.

N.Y. Bagel & Deli's third location, N.Y. Bagel Deli & Pizza, opened April 30 on South OBT for delivery and takeout. The restaurant offers New York-style bagels in various flavors that may be filled with smoked fish, cream cheese or hummus. Pizzas and desserts are also available.

Fat Mike’s Hot Chicken

Fat Mike’s Hot Chicken, the Nashville hot chicken concept restaurant that replaced the 4 Locos Tacos in Downtown Winter Garden on April 27, has been offering to-go and curbside pickup. According to the restaurant’spress release, the owners intended to wait until a later grand opening date, but sped up the opening of the downtown eatery to ensure employees were able to make ends meet. The venue says it sells “real Southern Fried Chicken” and offers crispy, juicy chicken at various spice levels. On May 4, the restaurant officially opened for dine-in as well.

Sweet Shiba opened on Jan. 24 and closed its dining room on March 17 to offer delivery and pick-up only. On May 8, the venue began serving outdoors as well. As the pandemic caused Sweet Shiba financial loss, they began aGoFundMeon May 12 to help them “survive through this difficult time.” Sweet Shiba offers Asian street food, desserts, teas, customized cakes and other tasty sweets.
